About Mattupetty
Mattupetty which is nestled near to Munnar, is one of the most attractive hill stations in South India. Mattupetty is a great place, excellent for trekking and is a habitat to a variety of birds. History
Mattupetty dam was successfully built in 1953. This dam is one of the Hydro Electric power projects in Kerala

The Indo-Swiss livestock project
Mattupetty is known for its famous dairy farm, i.e. the Indo-Swiss live stock project. The Indo-Swiss project is a joint venture between Kerala government and the government of Switzerland. More than 100s of different genus of cattle are nurtured here. The main aim of this project is to rear high milk yielding cows. This farm is open for visitants in the day time. Visitants are allowed to enter only in 3 of the 11 cattle sheds in the farm.
Mattupetty Lake and dam
The Mattupetty Lake and Dam, which is the first place we see while visiting Mattupetty is not so far from the farm. It is a picturesque tourist spot. The Mattupetty dam was was successfully built in 1953. The total length of the dam is 297 feet and the catchment area is 105 million cubic feet. The lake iscreated by this dam offers a beautiful picnic spot. Boating facilities are available in Mattupetty dam. The boating facility in Mattupetty is operated by the DTPC(District Tourism Promotion Council) Idukki. Boats of all kind like speed boats, row boats, pedal boats, motor boats are accessible in Mattupetty dam
