About
Rajamala is a fascinating hill station snuggled in the western ghats of Kerala. This picturesque hill station is the natural habitat of the Nilgiri tahr. More than half of Nilgiri Tahr (Hemitragas hylocres) - mountain goat' world population is living here. The number of Nilgiri Tahrs in this region is estimated to nearly 1350. This Rajamala which is a part of Eravikulam wild life sanctuary is an attempt to preserve this fast becoming extinct. This hill station is 13 Kilo Meters away from Munnar on Udumalpet Road.
The Nilgiri Tahr is not the only reason to visit Rajamala. This hill station is blessed with its picturesque beauty and small small herds of Nilgiri Tahr. Rajamala is a great trekking place too. Tourists are allowed to enter only in some area specially reserved for tourists. Once in 12 years the mountains and valleys will be draped by Neelakurinji's purple blue floral blanket.
The visiting time in Rajamala is 7AM to 6PM only. You need to pay a small entry fees.
Geography
Rajamala is situated at the western ghats of Idukki district. It is about 2695 meters high from the sea level.
Transportation
No public service vehicles are available to Rajamala. Cars are allowed till the final forest check post while buses and other heavy motor vehicles will be stopped in the first check post itself.

Munnar is blessed with a nice weather through out the year. Summer in Rajamala are pleasant while winter are cool. Munnar and Rajamala gets a heavy rain in June - August
