 February 09 2010 | Category : Traveler | | (2) Comments

Bored of your cement and steel house? Want to reserve a place in the bosom of nature? Then climb high on to a tree house in one of Eco friendly tourist locations in Kerala. Known popularly as Erumadam, tree houses are available in many of the hill stations and forest areas in Kerala. For your easy pick many resorts offer the natural Erumadam stay which is blessed with all comforts one would find in any cottage.

Tree House or Erumadam

Interestingly, the concept of the tree house was developed by tribal of Kerala who were mainly forest dwellers. The tree houses which used to be 40 to 80 ft above the ground were propped up on huge and strong trees to give them protection from wild animals, especially elephants. Later the idea was adopted by settler farmers and later on by the tourism industry.

A caress of cool breeze, a breathtakingly beautiful bird’s eye view of a sleepy valley and sight of a star studded sky which is visible right from the balcony, all these a tree house in any hill station will offer you.? The tree houses are propped up safely at a height of 20 to 30 feet and are traditional in all their true sense. With their rope way entrance, their solar panel lighting in the night, protection of trees which are watching over, spacious and comfortable interiors, the tree houses gives one the true experience of having an adventurous and comfortable stay. In most tree houses are equipped to accommodate a family of four and are also available with honeymoon suite facility in some areas. To bring out the ravishing romance in you which place would suit more? The comfortable tree houses or short stay tree homes are available in plenty in hills stations of Wayanad, Idukki and Ernakulam districts.

For those who are more adventurous and too wild to be tamed by homely tree house with a good hot shower there are other options to explore. In most adventure tour and trekking spots in the state tree houses which are true to their earlier Erumadam versions are available. The most impressive of them, this guide would say, are the tree houses in Periyaar Tiger Reserve. Located right in the middle of a jungle, the Erumadam at this place would give one the thrill and the chill of watching the big cats strolling in the wild. Secure and safe from the dangerous surroundings down below even while giving a picture perfect view of the place, the tree houses in the place are must stay spots. The availability should be checked before hand with the forest department.
