Having plains as well as mountains, it provides rich diversity in the type of food grains that can be grown. Add to that, the fact that, they have diverse groups of people following different religion and customs, forming the place, the cuisine can be nothing but interesting. Nepali cuisine manages to fuse different types of cuisine of the different groups of people who live here and emerge as a unique cuisine in it self. Nepal’s produce is dominated with the growing of various dals and rice along with various vegetables. They even have poultry and meat as a part of their diet. Nepali cooking maybe considered a simple fare and it’s easy to be fooled to thinking it’s too simple a cuisine. However the way in which the various basic dal’s and vegetables merge to become one flavorful dish is what gives Nepali cuisine its novelty tag. Punjabi DhabasAugust 17 2010 | Category : Food | | (9) CommentsPunjabi Dhaba‘s are restaurants run by Punjabi’s along highways(roadside) in the outskirt areas of cities, towns or villages. The joining of various Indian cities with National, state and village roads benefited these style cafes. The Punjabis who manage these outlets are either from the Indian or Pakistani province serving wholesome, clean authentic Punjabi food. They originated in the beginning, for the purpose of serving hot cooked homely food to the truckers who were again majority Punjabis. These truckers make their stop-overs for freshening and having their food at these dhabas dotted in plenty along the roadways of India. The drivers being away from home for long periods during their trip enjoy taking their meals at dhabas because of the traditional ambiance and homely hospitality it provides. Kallu shops or Toddy BarsMay 18 2010 | Category : Food | | (8) CommentsAny tourist who visits Kerala is likely to be attracted by the ubiquitous boards before the thatched huts along the roads proclaiming kallu meaning toddy or palm wine. While visiting Alappuzha, make it a point to visit the famous kallu shops ( toddy bars). Kallu or palm wine, made from the sap of the coconut tree flower before it blooms, has been a traditional drink of Kerala.
